Magnesium stearate is an additive produced by the reaction of sodium stearate with magnesium salts. This fine white powder is mainly used for its softness, insolubility and low toxicity properties. These properties make it suitable to use as an additive in many industries: in polymer processing as an acid scavenger and internal lubricant, in painting/coating as a thickener, flattening and antifoaming agent, in pharmaceutical as a lubricant and excipient, in the food industry as anti-cacking and coating agent.
